As a performing guitarist of many years, I have used many different kinds of setups, ranging from stompbox based pedalboards, to MIDI-controlled rack solutions, and in the more recent years digital amp modellers and multi-effect units.
During a performance, I realised that complexity comes with the cost of focus. When I play the acoustic, I only play the guitar. But when I play the electric, I play the guitar and the pedalboard – why is it really so? One could argue that I should just get rid of my addiction to delays, overdrives and what not. But could a middle ground exist?
I started looking for a product that would allow me to move freely on the stage, and to focus on the really important stuff – my guitar and my performance. I did find some products, but they required a change to the construction or aesthetics of my guitar.
I just wanted to turn a tone knob into a controller, allowing me to control key parameters and to engage lead tones while standing at the end of the stage.
This is why I created Onboard Expression. I hope you will love it as much as I do.
